MONTHLY REFEREE TRAINING AND MEETING:

Referee Training/Meeting Wednesday, Mar 17 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm
LOCATION:  Molly's Burgers,  4720 Little Road, Arlington, 76017

Topic - Failure to Respect Required Distance
State Referee Candidate - Steve Gordon will lead the discussion on this topic.  Know when to insert yourself into getting 10 yards for the players vs allowing a quick free kick, not getting in the way.  Getting 10 yards just outside the penalty area will be much different than getting 10 yards at the 50...10 yards on a 1 - 1 game vs 10 - 0 game.  Also, some tips on managing the throw-ins w/regards to the 2 yard requirement.  Mark your calendar for a beneficial night of referee insight.  If you just passed the test, come out and meet the Arlington assignor.

Referee Training/Meeting Wednesday, Apr 21 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Location To Be Announced

Topic - Dealing With Coaches
Mark your calendar and join us for a lively discussion. This discussion will be led by a couple of referees who are some of Arlington's favorite refs...., State Referee - Jennifer Jones (JJ) who is also the coach of Cedar Hill Girls Varsity, and State Referee Candidate - Shad Green.

Referee Appearance and Equipment
1. If you wear a shirt under your uniform...it's BLACK

2. Socks...referee socks only. Some of the younger refs will wear their team socks...please don't, get the referee sock with the stripes at the top or the newest style that have the stripe a bit above the ankle.

3. NO JEWELRY...it's a bit silly when at the coin toss, you remind players, no jewelry, but you or your AR has got on ear rings, or a bracelet...the NO JEWELRY rule applies to the refs. WEDDING RINGS are ok to wear.

4. Have paper and pen/pencil. Assistant Referees, you record the score, the misconduct, you keep a record of the match.

5. Get referee shorts. Females, wear them properly, don't role them at the waist. Males, have the proper length. Don't wear them just above the knees.

6. Wear a watch, preferably one that counts up/down...a digital watch.

7. Hair...NO MOHAWKS guys. Young men and women, if your hair is in your eyes, get a hair cut, we don't want you flipping your head from side to side. It's windy on the fields, even in good days, it's windy. Make sure you can see.

IMPORTANT ROSTER INFORMATION
There is only one type of roster acceptable to ASA.  If you are handed any other variation that doesn't look right, please direct the team mgr to the green barn by field 17.  The board member on duty will give them a blank one for them to fill out.  It's ok to get this by halftime, no need to hold up the game for the roster.  You do need it by halftime.

With the recreational league expanding to include 10 surrounding areas, Let's get them to submit the proper roster.

It's the referee's responsibility to make sure the scores are correct.  If you have your AR's record the score (that's fine) you still must check to make sure both sheets reflect the correct scores.

Did you know: MISCONDUCTS & SEND OFFS

Always check with your league/assignor to see what is required of you for this part of your responsibilities.  Each association/league is different but all require something.  It's up to you to find out what is required of you in regards to paperwork.

If you've never written up a misconduct report or send off report, please click on "forms & documents" in the left hand column.  Under Referee Papers, you'll find exactly what you need to do/know...step by step.  We've posted the A & D presentation from '08.  FYI...A & D is ASA's Appeals & Discipline Officer, meaning, he's the one that gets the reports.  He's the one that needs to visualize what transpired during the match from your write up.  He and a few others determine the sit outs, suspensions, justice that is served up.  This is a very helpful tool, please use it.
